New Years Eve Eye - Mac Kohl Power in Feline and Illamasqua Liquid Metal in Phenomena

I popped to the Mac counter on New Years Eve to check out the repromote of Kohl Power in Feline.

I had heard that it was 'the blackest of black' pencil eyeliners.

I wanted to take a look but I couldn't honestly see that it would do anything that my £3 Rimmel liner can't do.

I take it back.

I was wrong.

The rumours are true.

If you haven't checked it out, do.

Dreaming of summer days...

At the request of the lovely Naz at the Postcolonial Rabbit  (http://thepostcolonialrabbit.blogspot.com/) I have done a little review of the ASOS floral skater dress I got a couple of weeks ago.

Here is my own little photomontage (excuse my ugly mug! Looking a little bit gruesome in the cold light of day. Our heating is broken and it is freeeeeezing)

It's definitely a summer dress, it's lightweight, unlined cotton.

I so want it to be summer again now. Just come back from holiday in (comparatively) sunny Morocco to all this snow and cold! I've already started compiling summer wishlists and looking forward to doing a bit of this

with my lovely boyfriend.

Naz also tagged me with the '10 things that make me happy' tag. My very first tag! : )

1. Being with my boyfriend

2. Sitting having a natter with my friends and family

3. Being outside and doing adventure sports

4. Getting something I have lusted after for ages at a bargainous price!

5. Reading in the bath

6. Going to new places

7. Pub crew

8. Nandos!

9. Swimming

10. Being silly and nattering with people online

I tag anyone that reads this who fancies doing it : )

(bit of a cop out, I know!)

OOTD, Barry M Glitter Lashes and M & S Moisturising lipstick

Hello Ladies : )

I've got a couple of short reviews to do but firstly, here is my outfit of the day.

Top - H & M
Skirt - Oasis
Belt - Miss Selfridge

Shoes - Tesco

M & S moisturising lipstick

I bought this on a whim with an online order I put in a few weeks ago (coincidentally, they have postage for 1p at the moment if you are quick!).

I bought the shade 'Candy' and I have to say that I love it.

It does need reapplying every so often but for £2.50 I don't think I mind! They have a great range of colours and it doesn't dry out your lips at all. The colour is much more vibrant in real life and I love it : )

Barry M Glitter Lashes

I can't get a good picture of these!

The glitter comes in a tube that you twist at the bottom to get the glitter onto the brush at the top. You have to be quite careful or you end up with too much on the brush and it looks to heavy when you put it on the eye.

When you get the balance right it looks so, so gorgeous. You can either go for a 'teardrop' effect with tiny dots of glitter at the very tips of the lashes or coat the entire lash in glitter for a full on sparkle effect.

I love these. The darker colours don't show up particularly well when you have mascara on underneath but that makes them more subtle and wearable in the daytime. They retail at about £4.50, I got mine from ASOS.

Finally, I bought this playsuit at Topshop earlier and my Mum has decided she hates it! What do you guys think? She says it reminds her of a 'childrens gymslip' (!) but I also don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing?! I'm not planning on wearing on now but I can definitely see myself wearing it in the summer for a nautical vibe. Thoughts?

Thanks everyone, hope you all have a good weekend : )

Mac Mineralize Eye Shadow : Blue Flame

I know I'm a bit late jumping on the bandwagon here (it left a long time ago) but because I've heard a few complaints about the pigment within Mac Mineralize eye shadows, I thought I'd see what I could do with a bit of layering.

B Never Too Busy eyeshadow in Belize (black) and Blur (purple)
Mac Parrot eyeshadow (from the Jewel palette 2004 - bright blue)
Mac Pearlglide Fly by Blu
Collection 2000 Glam Crystals eyeliner in Rock Chick
2 True glitter mascara (which is lovely but it clumps quite easily - I guess this is to be expected with glitter)
Clinique High Impact mascara
Mac Mineralize Blue Flame eyeshadow to finish - used wet

It doesn't particularly bother me that Blue Flame doesn't stand out particularly by itself - I really like the colour of it when it is layered. So it's a thumbs up from me : )

(not for everyday/ office work / shopping at Tesco, obviously. Hehe)

Eee!

Sorry for the total lack of posts!

Being a fashion student is more demanding than I thought it would be. We are in lessons from 10.30-4pm most days of the week and it is so exhausting. We are expected to do quite a lot outside of lessons as well and I'm a busy bee as it is!

The reason why I am writing is because I am really saddened to hear of the demise of B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful.

They are the reason I wear makeup today. When I was about 15 I used to go into Superdrug and smear my face with things without really knowing what suited me or what kind of thing I was looking for. I used to leave without buying anything generally, feeling a bit dejected. After giving up on my 'dark blue Lancome eyeliner and Myrtille Juicy Tube phase' I was so pleased when B Never brought products out that actually suited me. Their eyeshadows have a really lovely consistency with nicely blendable pigment. I've actually got suspected swine flu at the moment (and look like a shiny pensioner ghost) so I can't do a special face of the day but I have raided my Flickr account for those special moments that have been enhanced by having B Never products in my life! (hehe, got to love a bit of cheesy sentiment)

(not quite sure what face I am pulling there!)

I wore this look when I met my boyfriend's extended family for the first time.
This is B Never pressed eyeshadow in the shade 'Bentley'.

I really do have to apologise for the incredibly rubbish pictures. As you might be able to tell from the pictures, I have shine issues. I don't tend to wear foundation but does anybody have any tips for dealing with shine? Have considered blotting pages but not sure if they work?

This is B Never pressed eyeshadow in the shade 'Belize'. It's the tiniest, tiniest swatching of it. You can build up a really dark eye with this shade if you wish. None of my friends are really into makeup so I have to keep it reasonably subtle! I love Collection 2000 glitter eyeliner - it really makes the eyes sparkle.

Will try and get some better pictures when this horrible cold has disappeared!

Anyway, the point is, B Never Too Busy To Be Beautiful will no longer be trading after December 2009. Their products are produced by Lush and they have decided to close the makeup side of the business as it is proving unprofitable. I am sad to hear of their demise : ( . Their products are not tested on animals, use natural ingredients and come in the prettiest packaging. I've already asked my mum if I can draw up a wishlist of their products for Christmas before they are no longer available.

(I realise this totally sounds like an advert but it's not! I just really love their stuff and their products are the reason I got into wearing makeup more regularly. I've got ideas for posts on Mac Young Punk eyeshadow and various Gosh nailpolishes that will come up in the next few weeks if I have time - I'm not a one brand girl!)

FOTD and OOTD number 1!

So here is my very first face and outfit of the day : )

I started uni yesterday and I because I'm doing a fashion course I really wanted to stand out. Not as much as some people though! I don't think socks and heels with your underwear hanging out can ever be called a good look!

Corsage - Accessorize
Bolero - Gap
Lurex thread tunic top - H & M
Leggings - New Look
Boots - All Saints
Bag - Topshop
Bangles - Primark
I love all the individual components of this look so it seemed an obvious choice to put together : )
As far as makeup goes I am very, very new to makeup. I bought my first ever foundation a week ago! I have quite bad, generally pretty pale skin which doesn't work particularly well with anything too heavy. I'm hoping it will clear up as I get older! I'd kinda been hoping that the second I got out of my teens my skin would appear magically spot free! Alas. This is not the case. But I'm learning how to work with my skin and make the most of my best features.
I couldn't get any decent pictures of the eye which was a bit rubbish!
I'm wearing :
Mac Pearlglide Fly By Blu
Clinique High Impact Black Mascara
B Never Too Busy Pressed Eyeshadow in B Never
Elf Moisture Care Lipcolour in Ruby Slipper
Cargo Beach Blush in Sunset Beach (a teeny bit!)
It feels so weird to be doing proper outfit and make up posts! Eee!

Wednesday 9 September 2009

Hello : )

My name is Polly, aka Gwenny (a nickname I've had since school), I'm a total fashion addict and have been since birth (fact!). I am a fashion marketing student and I live in the South East with my lovely Mummy, a corgi with royal delusions and my ever bulging wardrobe. I've had a personal blog for years but I sense my followers are getting fed up with my babbling about clothes and makeup so I thought it was about time I start a fashion one. Welcome to my diary : )
